Many academic libraries are now home to digital scholarship units that might be called research & development operations. R&D is characterized by experimentation and partnership, but it's also where some of our most obvious failures and unusable ideas happen: how does "research & development" fit into a culture of service and assessment? What does the daily work of R&D look like in libraries, and how can we learn from each other's experiences in experimental digital scholarship?
